Our Story

An international marketing and manufacturing group in the battery, acoustics and electronics industries

GP Industries Limited is an international manufacturing and marketing group with operations in the fields of Battery Solutions and Acoustics & Electronics, as well as Industrial Investments. The Company has been listed on the Mainboard of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Limited (“SGX-ST”) since 1995. It is the main industrial investment vehicle of Hong Kong-listed Gold Peak Technology Group Limited.

Our extensive manufacturing and distribution network spans over 10 countries across Asia, Europe and the Americas. Excluding associates and joint ventures, the Group currently employs approximately 5,760 people and occupies a total floor area of approximately 574,400 square meters.

GP Batteries supplies an extensive range of battery products to original equipment manufacturers, leading battery companies as well as consumer retail markets under the GP brand name.

In Acoustics & Electronics, we develop, manufacture and market a wide range of industry-leading products under household brand names including KEF and Celestion.

Our History
1964

A small battery business which later takes the name of GP Batteries started operation in Hong Kong.

1968

A 9V battery plant was set up in Taiwan, diversifying the Group’s manufacturing base outside Hong Kong.

1973

The Group’s business diversified into electrical installation for Clipsal lighting products.

1974

The Group’s business further diversified into car audio equipment and other electronic products.

1984

The parent holding company, Gold Peak Industries (Holdings) Limited, was listed in Hong Kong. It was renamed as Gold Peak Technology Group Limited in 2022.

1986

The Group started to form manufacturing joint ventures in China.

1991

GP Batteries International Limited, the subsidiary responsible for battery manufacturing, marketing and distribution, was listed in Singapore. It was privatized in 2017.

 

1992

Clipsal Industries (Holdings) Limited, the subsidiary in electrical business, was listed in Singapore. The business was sold in phases between 2003 and 2006.

The Groups business diversified into acoustic products by acquiring a 50% interest in a UK manufacturer which owned KEF and Celestion brands. These two brands became wholly owned by the Group in 1999.

The Group started its parts and components OEM business for car audio and other applications.

1995

GP Industries Limited was listed in its original name, GPE Industries Limited, in Singapore.  It was the holding company of the electronic business. The change of company name took place in 2000.

2002

GP Batteries acquired a 75% interest in Zhongyin (Ningbo) Battery Co., Limited, one of the largest Alkaline battery manufacturers in China. This strategic acquisition further strengthened GP Batteries’ position as the largest battery group in the country.

2004

The Company acquired a 67.27% stake in KEF America enabling it to gain direct access to, and have full control of, its distribution networks in the US.

2012

The Group’s factories in China started receiving awards for recognition of their contribution to environmental protection.

2015

KEF products were awarded the prestigious “Red Dot Award” and continued to gain global awards and recognitions.

2017

New battery plants in Malaysia and Vietnam started operation as part of efforts to rebalance the Group’s manufacturing capabilities in Southeast Asia.

2019

The Group set up a new electronics and acoustics plant in Thailand.

2022

The parent company was renamed as Gold Peak Technology Group Limited in March to focus on R&D of new rechargeable battery technology and B2B battery business while GP Industries concentrates on consumer batteries, as well as electronics and acoustics businesses in consumer products.

2023

A new subsidiary, KEF GP Group Limited was formed to draw upon the strengths of KEF, Celestion and GP Electronics to deliver high-fidelity acoustic products.
